Michael Kenna

Michael Kenna was a photographer best known for his unusual and unique white and black landscapes featuring light from dawn or even at night. These photos included long exposures to receive the best results within the image. Most of Kenna's images focused on human-made structures and/or sculptural masses and how they interacted with the atmospheric condition of the natural landscape.
Michael Kenna was a successful photographer because of his unique images. He was so successful with the unique photos he created mostly because of his long exposure times. By utilizing long exposure times, Michael Kenna was able to capture an image that the eye cannot visually see by itself in real life. I think long exposure images are really interesting and cool as they capture and bring in light overtime and all of that light captured is all used in one image to sort of make the image look alive and active.
The images posted below are both images created by Michael Kenna. The first image is a night long exposure. I find this image cool because it uses artificial lighting to expose the fog coming from the power plant which is captured throughout the whole entire night. This image is not something you could just look at and see it takes time to create and the outcome is really cool. The second image is an image created at dusk. This image conveys symmetry to create a really neat image. I liked this image because of the environment within it and because everything is calm and kinda gives me a calm feeling by just looking at it. Michael Kenna's artwork is truly incredible and I found it really likable.
